About Honoring the Old Ones
Married to Charles Wayne Brooks, son of Mary Ella Thornton and James Edgar
Brooks II in Montgomery Alabama. Mary's parents were Bessie Hood and Milton
Elijah Thornton and his mother was an indian woman named Mary Angeline
Partridge. Parents of James descend from many in Tennessee who were born long
before the Trail of Tears; Susie Mae Cooper married James E Brooks Sr. in
Montgomery Alabama and Susie's ancestors were found in Chambers County, former
Creek Nation.
Parents of Kathy Cochran were Anne Alice Carter and Frankie Lavern Cochran.
Anne's parents were Alice Emma McClain and Cecil Earl Fenn Carter. Frankie's
parents were Luella Ellen Coonfield and Frank Delbert Cochran. Anne was
Cherokee half blood and Frankie was one eighth.
Most of our ancestors began in Pennsylvania and Virginia and I am tracing them
across the country, collecting census records, wills, military documents and
pensions, letters, pictures, books, etc. They were often referred to as
Pennsylvania Dutch and some were buried in Quaker City, Ohio. Some began in
Rhode Island in the 1600s, Massachusetts, and New York Indian Country. Anne
Alice Carter Cochran is directly descended from pilgrim Edward Doty who came
over on the Mayflower.
